Tuesday morning the Senate will, for the second time (they voted in favor of it already once on May 22nd), take up a vote on Fast Track Authority (also called Trade Promotion Authority or TPA). If passed, Fast Track Authority would allow NOT ONLY the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) to move on to the next stage of being signed into law, but, as pointed out in an excellent article in the conservative website Breitbart, Fast Track would also allow the passage of 2 other huge trade deals, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). These three agreements, which Breitbart correctly points out are much more than just trade agreements, will encompass 3/4 of the world’s economies, and will erode American jobs, sovereignty and, indeed, democracy.
In the May 22nd vote, there were 14 Senate Democrats (listed below) who crossed party lines and voted in favor of Fast Track Authority. If you live in any of these states, or know someone who does (and you can call on their behalf or encourage them to call their Senators), I beg you to please let these Senators know, in no uncertain terms, that voting in favor of Fast Track Authority does NOT represent what their constituents want.
Moreover, I would let them know that those Democrats who do, for a second time, vote in favor of TPA/Fast Track Authority will have to deal with the consequences during the next election since a growing movement is underway by their constituents to throw them out of office. If the person answering the phone asks you why you oppose Fast Track/TPP, you can simply say that it is bad for America and it is bad for Americans.
These phone lines seem to be very busy. For different ways to contact your Senators (email and fax), please go to this website, put your zip code in, and your Senator’s other contact information will pop up. Here are the phone numbers for the 14 Senate Democrats who voted in favor of Fast Track Authority in May. They need to hear from you now!
