Yesterday was Thanksgiving here in the US. And here is something to be SO grateful for…please read the Scientific American article I’ve attached in the link below, and especially the last sentence in their article.
And so, for today, you can please post this to your FB page, tumblr, Twitter, wherever. You can reference the Scientific American article in letters to the editor in your local newspaper, bookmark it for future use in a comment section you may come across which downplays solar, wind, and renewable energy, etc.
This is very important and so incredibly promising. And you’ll notice that the Iowa farmer they mentioned didn’t do this for the environment, per se. He did it because it made good monetary sense. Is that a problem? Nope. It doesn’t matter in the least. He now finds himself in the “energy business,” and with a WAITING LIST of clients, no less! Although market pressures aren’t going to happen fast enough, alone, to save our planet, they help (if only a little) marginalize the fossil fuel industry and VERY importantly, decentralize the ownership of energy.
The end result is the same: so much better for the environment and this model needs to be replicated everywhere, using appropriate renewable technology for each location, if we are going to have any chance at a viable future. Imagine this farmer switching to afro-ecological methods of farming (excellent article here at National Geographic: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/05/140502-climate-change-agriculture-family-farm-science/).
It makes my heart burst with hope. Here is the Scientific American article: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/farmers-find-new-cash-crop-renewable-energy/
